Default Cutters and Self Abusers

As someone who has never cut myself and/or deliberately hurt myself, I wish I knew more about this!
I don't judge those that do it, only because I don't understand why!
I'm the kind od person that doesn't even like picking a pimple because I know it will only bleed!
I know of a few girls that are cutters (sorry for using this term) and really don't know what to do!
They are awesome girls and great dancers but I don't know what to do!
I really hate to see them hurt themselves!
I know that it is some kind of a relief, an escape!
But if you really care about someone that is doing this, how do you approach them?
Telling their parents or teachers or instructors about this is just gonna piss them off even more and now you'll lose a friend!
What to do would really help!

@RachelBallet

First of all, don't talk about it if they don'y want to. Nothing is worse than being confronted with something you are ashamed of. Especially self harm. If they don't wanna talk about then leave it.

As for understanding it, well yes it's a stress relief really, not much to say about it. Well I don't feel like going too in depth about the reasons.

Look, approaching them is hard and may make them feel really ashamed of themselves, you should understand this and watch out when doing this.

When you're taught to love everyone, to love your enemies, then what value does that place on love?

If you're close friends then I could see you wanting to get involved but otherwise leave them alone unless they ask for help or you think they're a real danger to themselves.

Before you do anything though please at least understand what you're talking about:

These 2 pretty much sum it up here.

If you think they're in danger, or possibly contemplating suicide for any reason, try and take the role of a good friend in the situation. Ask them if everything's okay, and if you can help them. It will be difficult for them to open up to you and they may feel ashamed, so depending on their personality be careful on how you approach them and how you say certain things.

I think that your friends have to figure out themselves how to stop and get over harming themselves.

I am gay and happy with that.
I love talking to people very open & willing to listen.
I am also glad to try help with questions or problems.
Hit me up for anything. I promise I don't bite.

While I did say that forcing your help on them is bad, leaving them alone if they want to talk about it is not very good either. If they are willing to open up about it never just leave them to 'figure it out on their own'.

Well I truly agree if they ask for help or open up about things then heavens yes listen to them and support them. What I was saying before was that if they don't want to talk about things or accept help then they need to work through things on their own.

I am gay and happy with that.
