I think maybe it's because you want someone to help you, cause if someone sees your cut, he would like to know why you do/did that and then he would try to help you to go through. I don't know if it's true for you, but I know it was true for me.

I agree with EllieS. you're just hoping that if someone see's it they will understand and help you

I used to do that too; it could be because you cut as a cry for help, not necessarily for attention.
~ "But when it came right down to it, the skin of my wrist looked so white and defenseless that I couldn't do it. It was as if what I wanted to kill wasn't in that skin or the thin blue pulse that jumped under my thumb, but somewhere else, deeper, more secret, and a whole lot harder to get.” ― Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar |

No you aren't an attention seeker. An attention seeker would tell the whole school that they cut. You just want someone to reach out and notice what you're going though. That is completly understandable. Stay Strong babe! <3

You're definitely not an attention seeker because that's a natural feeling. While you don't want any more trouble to come from somebody seeing your cuts and you might feel ashamed of them, at the same time you want somebody to "accidently" see them and care for you more. If the feeling gets to be too much, you can always tell/show somebody you trust.
But don't worry, you're not an attention seeker. An attention seeker would be someone who isn't even feeling bad at all, makes chicken scratches on their arm, then uploads it for everyone to see on the internet lol. Quote:

No, I kind of want that to happen to. It's just because you want somebody to see and care about them. That's completely alright. Being an attention seeker would be yelling it out that you cut, and showing them off. What's happening to you is you just want somebody to help you. Don't worry, you're not an attention seeker.
"When we cut, we're in control - we make our own pain and we can stop it whenever we want. Physical pain relieves mental anguish. For a brief moment, the pain of cutting is the only thing in the cutter's mind, and when that stops and the other comes back, it is weaker." - Shelley Stoehr. I think you just want someone to help you because with that they will pay attention to and might be able to help you talk about it. You probably just need someone there to care about you and love you. I had my sleeves up and someone saw mine on my arms and she helped me out so much by just talking to me and being there for me. I think this is kind of similar most people just want someone to care about them and I think that's you.

I kind of feel the same way, but the ridicule and harassment i would get if someone found out wouldnt be worth it. I want to talk to someone but at the same time i never want anyone to find out that i cut

If you were just an attention seeker, I really don't think you'd go to the length of cutting yourself open. You may want and deserve attention, but that's different from seeking it.

I do that too. Its not really for attention, its more to get someone to help you without having to ask. Anybody can say that they don't want help, but deeply you might, at least I know I kinda do

It's not attention seeking at all. You probably want someone to notice because you either want help or you want to feel like you're loved and cared about. It's not a bad thing to feel that way, so don't worry about it. x
Time isn't a straight line. It's all...bumpy-wumpy. There's loads of boring stuff. Like Sundays and Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons. But now and then there are Saturdays. Big temporal tipping points where anything is possible. -Doctor Who 06x01: The Impossible Astronaut. |
