Crunches are the most effective way to tighten abs. Also, you can't spot reduce weight. If you have weight on your stomach(not saying you do) or your arms(not saying you do either) you can't start doing crunches and curling weights and expect to lose that weight. That being said, I'd say a good 50% of your effectiveness in working out is based on your diet.
