Anyway, back on topic. Tell me what the jumpers are set as and how you have the drives configured on the cable. It should go, MOBO > SLAVE > MASTER. Do you have the jumpers set as one being master and one slave or are they both on cable seslect? Have you tried unhooking the second drive and only trying the problem drive? Have you tried switching from secondary IDE controller to primary? Have you tried using a different IDE cable?
It can be one of four things. Bad drive, configured wrong (or in a way it just doesnt like), bad IDE controller, or bad IDE cable.
