Problems?

-I can't sit in a room with the door wide open, it HAS to be shut otherwise I'll get angry and I'll start lashing out at people.

-I can't have the TV or radio volume number on a number that's not a multiple of 5.

-The cereal boxes on the shelf have to go in height order and facing the exact same way.

-I eat all my food with a plastic spoon. The taste of an ordinary spoon made of metal makes me feel physically sick. Well, the small ones I don't mind.

-I get really upset and frustrated if I have to sit on a chair at the edge next to the aisle in cinemas, school assembly, friends houses etc. I can't really explain it :S

-I check continously if all the windows and doors are shut a few times when I leave the house.

-I can't stand it when there's a gap in the closed curtains or blinds.

-I feel dizzy and almost as if I'm losing myself in crowds and busy places, and at school.

Well, there are quite a few more but I just don't have the time to write them ALL down.
Go ahead and think I'm pathetic and stupid or whatever but these "problems" are driving me crazy and they're actually taking over my life.
But if you think you could give me some advice, you're welcome to it :)
Just please don't be harsh, I really can't be bothered with that.

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

Have you/are you seeing a doctor or Psychiatrist for your OCD? Because I think that they are the ones who are going to be able to help you the most, they're the ones who are going to be able to give you medication, or therapy. I'm not much that we on VT can do for you.

Either that, or I there is something that can help but I don't know them.

Sorry.

Okay, we arren't doctors. We can't diagnose your with anything. But personally, be the sound of it, you seem to have OCD and/or social anxiety. But, if you want to help stop it or keep it under control, I highly suggest seeing a professional.

Oh! That sucks :(
Im sorry you have to do that.
Have you gone to a doctor about it?
Try going to your counselor, or doctor, and seeing what they can do to help
But like Rex said, VT can't do much except cheer you on :)

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

I appreciate that not everyone on VT is a doctor ^__^
So you don't have to diagnose me with anything.

In fact, I've already been diagnosed with OCD. (And a few other things...:S)
I get counselling very often too, but they never help me >__> they just sit there while I blabber on and on about my problems. What morons :|

But anyways, thanks for your replies :D

I used to be exactly the same with the TV multiple of 5 thing. I couldn't physically relax while I knew it was on a strange number. I couldn't walk out of the room unless it was set on Channel One for the next use. I feel strange also while surrounded by others, isolated or whatever. I absolutely hate it when anyone else has been in my room and started sorting out my clothes. I can't have the flower at the top of the plate facing anywhere but forward. If my radio has any tiny amount of white noise, I will not listen to it because I think it sounds wrong. I mean a tiny amount. Well, anyway, I'm not diagnosed with OCD but whatever :P

Yay! Someone exactly/nearly like me )
I totally understand the Channel One thing because I also can't leave the room unless the TV is on a channel that I like or that I usually watch. I hate it when it's on a strange channel with programmes I'm not familiar with.

But it does sound like you have OCD.
Don't worry about it though :) In a way, I think it's kinda cool.

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

I have ocd and that looks like it but I'm not a docter so I can't really say. These are some of my symptoms:

- I'm obsessed with the numbers 2 and 4. I have to doe things in a pattern that involves them.(like putting the dash i to start this point. its highlighted in red)

- I have to check my answers over and over again on tests.

- I'm terrified by germs and anything dirty.

- I have thoughts where if I do this rediculous my friends and family will not die.

- I'm very perinoid.

And that's all I can think of at the moment.

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

I havent been diagnosed with anything but im pretty shure I have Ocd Also. I do things like...

- When im walking home, I can only take two steps per sidewalk square, if there is 3 steps in one square ill only step once in the next square to even it out.

- The car radio volume or any volume can only be in mulitples of 2's or 5's.

- I can only have one bottle of one thing in the fridge. So if there is like 6 Bbq sauces Ill move them to other places, like cupboards, or the fridge in our garage.

- When eating anything like skittles or smarties, I have to sort out all of the colours, and then eat them in even numbers. If there are 25 red, Ill throw it out or get rid of it.

There's alot more things that I do. But dont feel like listing them all.

Well, here are some more:
- If I have any more than about 5 tabs on my browser I have to open a new browser before making a new tab.
- I usually count for a while when doing something boring, or I hold my breath for as long as I can.
- I'm paranoid that if anyone sees any holes in my clothes they'll think I'm cheap.
- I check my testicles at least once an hour to make sure they are there.
- I am constantly worried someone can see ear wax in my ear, or snot in my nose.
- I usually feel the top half of my nose for no reason, hold one finger, scratch the back of my head (when it's not itching) or lick my top lick.
- I sometimes think I have internal bleeding for no reason, as a teacher said sometimes you don't know and you just have pains.
- I'm scared of corners.

I also did a test thing:
Symptom: Unfounded fears of contracting a dreadful illness
Symptom: Obsessions about one's body
Symptom: Abnormal concerns about sticky substances or residues
Symptom: Need to align objects just so
Symptom: Abnormal concerns about the neatness of one's personal appearance/environment
Symptom: Fear of losing something or discarding something
Symptom: Sexual thoughts that one views as inappropriate/unacceptable
Symptom: Fears that one may be homosexual
Symptom: Repeating routine activities for no logical reason
Symptom: Repeating questions over and over
Symptom: Repeated intruding images of violence
Symptom: Irrational fears that some foods are bad or must be avoided
Symptom: Being overly concerned about one's weight
Symptom: The feeling that household items are contaminated
Symptom: The need to keep doing something until one gets it just right
Symptom: Inspecting houshold trash in case some valuable item has been thrown out
Symptom: Accumulating useless objects
Symptom: Repeatedly checking to see if a door is locked or an appliance is turned off
Symptom: Checking associated with bodily obsessions
Symptom: Blinking or staring rituals
Symptom: Asking over and over for reassurance
Symptom: The need to ask, tell or confess
Symptom: The need to touch, tap or rub certain objects repeatedly

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

Gah I totally know what you're talking about.
Whenever there's something that regards numbers (like the volume limit on my computer), I can't have the numerical amount be anything other than numbers whose digits add up to 3 or 7.
My room door must be closed at all times or else I go bananas. It's weird, I don't know why I hate an open door, but it just bothers me.
oyye the list goes on.
I
hate
it.

Re: Can someone please help me with these problems?

I'd suggest you get a new therapist or counseller, someone who actually helps and makes you feel better or someone you feel comfortable with.

Obviously we don't think you're pathetic though, it's horrible to realise you're doing this stuff day after day and can't stop.

When I think about it, I have a LOT of these things.. And since I'm bored I'm going to write all that I can think of XD

Doors have to be closed.
I can't drink clear liquid from a non-clear cup.
When I walk over the bridge(every day) I walk on the side closest to the road so my ipod doesn't fall out of my pocket and over the side.
blinds have to be either completely open or closed.
I have to breathe away from people.
Constantly checking where I'm supposed to be or what I'm supposed to be doing.
I have to sit in the back row of every class or I think people are looking at me and laughing.
When I cut it has to be in multiples of two.
My shoelaces have to be exactly the same length.
I can only eat breakfast with the same small metal spoon, if I can't find it I won't eat.
Mouthwash has to be used for exactly 38 seconds.

That's all I can think of for the moment, but I'm sure there are many more :P
