When did I know I was a lesbian?

Posted November 28th, 2019 at 03:57 PM by Elise05

Note: I love to write. This is something that I have been working on for a while now. I was just asked this question again, so I wanted to publish this.

How did you know you were a lesbian?

I have been asked that question so much, and it drives me crazy. While I do understand that sometimes the question is being asked by girls who are questioning their own sexualities, it seems to be asked by more people who may be questioning my own.

How did I know?

How did you know you weren't gay? This response throws many off. They say, "I'm straight. What do you mean? I've always been straight." Bingo! And I have always been gay. I know that porn seems to show that women can just be turned lesbian or bi, a little seduction and— WHAM —gay! That's not how it works. It's not how any of this works.

Yet I do acknowledge those girls who are questioning. That question I am happy to answer. I always felt an attraction to girls. While some people don't consider their attractions until they mature, I always felt being drawn to girls. One could call it crushes, but they were no different from the crushes that girls have for boys and boys for girls when you are six or seven years old.

As I grew older, the feelings grew stronger, and I knew that it wasn't just a passing phase. You know who are, but you sometimes might have to ask yourself. I resisted the jokes I heard about gays and lesbians and those who are different.

So I didn't have to wait until I kissed a girl for the first time, nor did I have to wait to have sex. I knew before that happened.

I know that for some sexuality is not so black and white. Pansexuals, ominsexuals, and bisexuals might have a different path towards understanding their sexualities. And I could never begin to explain their perspectives.

This is my perspective dispelling the notion that my sexuality is a phase or anything different than that of a straight person.

When did I know?

I was born this way, so I guess I knew since then. Realizing it shouldn't be so hard with societal expectations.
