View Full Version : Alternative approach for anxiety?

I picked up more than a few medical books from the local library and one of them is titled "Alternative Cures That Really Work" by Ronald Hoffman, MD, and Barry Fox, PhD.

Page 27 talks about anxiety and a herb by the name of Kava.

Kava, an herb that comes from the South Pacific, has long been used as a tranquilizer and for ceremonial purposes by certain tribes. Kava contains substances called kavalactones that have sedative properties and, among other things, can relax skeletal muscles.
Several studies have investigated kava's ability to relieve anxiety, comparing it to some standard antianxiety medicines and to a placebo. In general, kava has proven to be superior to placebo for treating anxiety and comparable to tricyclic antidepressants (such as Asendin and Norpramin) and to low doses of benzodiazepines (such as Xanax).

Has anyone on here heard of, or more importantly, tried Kava?
