is there an IRC chat channel/room VT officially uses? (Can't get the browser one here to work)
Do people here chat on IRC?

There's a chat room but I don't think it works on Google Chrome because of a plugin issue.

^I use chrome and I have no problems with the chat room. You do have to have java installed specifically for google chrome, or whatever browser you are using (internet explorer, firefox, etc.) so that might be the issue.

I have never really been a big fan of IRC, but I understand it's quite popular and many websites use it. However we do have a java chat which works just fine so I myself personally don't see the need for an IRC channel to be made.

The chat room works fine, so again please make sure you have java installed for the specific browser you're using.

Java sucks balls. I hate chat programs like that. I prefer irc.

Truthfully I barely see anyone in the chat room like before, there's usually 1 or 2 people in it at a time. I don't even use it either, I'm sure if there was another chat room some would use it because we don't need java. Either way I think another chat room would probably work :P

VT used to have an IRC client back in the day, but since we've had the java-based chat (which can do a lot more than IRC), we've removed it. There's really no reason to go back to IRC...the chat we have works fine. It does indeed work with most browsers, and as long as your version is somewhat up to date (which it should be anyway), you won't have a problem.

I don't know if the room still exists but we did have one like Steven said. You can still access it I think via Govteen. Its mostly dead I believe but I haven't been in the room in around a year so it might have picked up but like Steven said the new chatroom is much cleaner, nicer and easier to access and manage.

The govteen network owns a irc, But its very dead. Which I find a shame, I like irc for the novelty [emoji14] also there are many creeps asking asl

Also for people wondering what govteen is. They own the domains.

Posts merged. Next time, please use the "Edit" button. ~Elysium

They don't own vt. We are entirely separate from Govteen

It does still exist, I was in it earlier last year. However, IRC was very poorly moderated (I was a moderator in the chat even when I wasn't on the site) and because it was not hosted on VT, the rules were a bit of a struggle to maintain.

With the Java chat, only site moderators can have moderation power in the chat (unless an admin grants power to another user) and the site rules apply as strictly to chat as they do to the forums.

The old IRC is dead and going back to the IRC chat would really just be more of a hassle than necessary and I think the admins will probably agree with me there. It was too hard to moderate and a lot of chat moderators did abuse their powers. Not to mention, it's attached to the Govteen chat and let's just say... it's not a very nice chat room.

As long as your Java plugin is up to date, you shouldn't have any issues accessing chat.

VT is a sister site.

I know it does. And I've asked them to stop claiming that more than once. I don't think that's too much to ask considering that VT is payed for by me, and that they have nothing to do with our operations at all, and have not for years.

VT is a sister site.

We don't really have too much of an affiliation with GovTeen.
