View Full Version : Geography in your area?

What's the Geography like where you live? Hills? Flat? Desert? Marsh?

I live inna place with a lot of hills and valleys, mostly the landscape is baren and unused, dedicated to sheap farming. Kind of a depressing place, and to the east it is mostly flatland with agriculture and a lot of farms. There is barely any no-mans-lans around. Its basically the generic welsh countryside.

What sort of place do you live in?

May 27th, 2014, 06:06 PM
Swamps, swamps, and oh look more swamps.

May 27th, 2014, 06:07 PM
It alternates between flat grassland and swamps. Probably more swamps than anything.

May 27th, 2014, 06:09 PM
My metropolitan area is weird. Most of my area is flat and near the Bay's marshland, but anything west of I-280 is mountain.

May 27th, 2014, 06:14 PM
Wow, I never had California down as a swapy area, I always though of it as sunny and flat with some mountains. Guess I was wrong

May 27th, 2014, 06:19 PM
Basically hills, redwood trees, and lakes

May 27th, 2014, 06:20 PM
Lots and lots of hills. I live in a city but there are lots of trees and things. Even just a few miles west there start to be more and more trees.

California isn't swampy.

I live in a very urbanized area. But it's very hilly, there are literally no flat area's larger than a square mile.

May 27th, 2014, 10:05 PM
I guess you could describe my area as a grassland, there are some mountains, we have lots of trees, some lakes, etc.

Where I used to live in Cali was flat and sunny. :)
where I live now is flat farmland. Not much here to see or do :( rains a lot in the spring hot, muggy and miserable in the summer Fall is usually pretty nice :) Winter is a bit too cold for me.

May 28th, 2014, 12:00 AM
In my area, the places that don't have much covering them is the lake. It's really a small townish area with stores of things we need but not too extravagant.

May 28th, 2014, 12:29 AM
the good old mojave desert. mostly flat and rocky with lots of sagebrush, joshua trees and impressive rocky mountains surrounding the valley (but not the rocky mountains)

May 28th, 2014, 06:46 AM
I live in a mountain range. Pretty cool. If you go about 50 miles west you hit the Atlantic

Flat grassland, pretty much. Much easier handle than the 100% swamp and humidity I used to live in

May 28th, 2014, 11:27 AM
Here in Minnesota we have a shit load of lakes. It's also kinda hilly but not really. COmmercial development is big here as well.

May 28th, 2014, 11:55 AM
Literally just a flat town. I guess you could say there were hills but even then I wouldn't describe it as being "hilly" really.

May 28th, 2014, 05:13 PM
I think I would live in any of the locations you have describes except mine...mostly because mine is in Wales....

May 28th, 2014, 09:47 PM
It's pretty flat but we have a couple hills in the area.

May 31st, 2014, 12:14 AM
It's mixed mixed geography. It's hilly/mountainy in some ares, desert-like with the Pacific Ocean right next to it

May 31st, 2014, 03:32 PM
90% of the people on this forum seem to live in America, and at least 50% of them seem to live in California, LA or NY

May 31st, 2014, 11:00 PM
It is mixed geography, mountains, seas, desert-like..

June 1st, 2014, 07:30 AM
I'm pretty sure it's a deciduous forest biome, trees everywhere, but there are quite a few evergreen type trees.

June 1st, 2014, 07:33 AM
Flat, flat, flat... No hills at all here.
A LOT of water and sea though :D

Flat as hell, even though I can sort of see the Rockies from where I live.

June 10th, 2014, 12:31 AM
All flat.

June 14th, 2014, 02:37 PM
Mostly flat. Quite a bit of trees. Farms.

That's pretty much it.

June 17th, 2014, 10:10 AM
Forests, forests everywhere. There is also a lot of rock here.

June 17th, 2014, 12:05 PM
Hilly forests make up where im at, with a few splotches of flatland which are always farmed for something, usually corn or tobacco, a lot of rivers and caves and grass is very tall here. Typical Ohio River basin geography.

June 17th, 2014, 12:20 PM
flat as fuck. the only hills around here were built by ants.

June 17th, 2014, 05:12 PM
It's pretty flat. Some forests and corn and hay.

June 17th, 2014, 10:49 PM
The Pacific Ocean, cliffs, beaches, sequoia trees, redwood trees, mountains, forests.

June 18th, 2014, 05:35 AM
Well the majority of Illinois is corn Feilds but I live in the norther suberbs so not many farms but it is rather flat

June 18th, 2014, 05:59 AM
Prairie, lots of constant wind. Good for growing wheat and cattle. Sparse human population, more cows than people. Cold winters, hot summers, terrible storms that can wipe a whole town off the map in a matter of minutes, killing and injuring people and livestock. But, I do not want to live any place else.

June 18th, 2014, 03:33 PM
Wish I had mountains and hills nearby. Lots of local villages around and hundreds of fields. Main rock type is chalk so that's quite cool I suppose. Pretty rubbish winters, no snow, and summers often rainy too.

June 18th, 2014, 05:07 PM
Pretty flat; some cornfields, some hills, but that's pretty much it.

City of Belgrade:
New Belgrade district: built on a swamp which has been covered with sand
Old Town: hills
Also two rivers pass here

July 2nd, 2014, 05:59 PM
We live in a valley on the west slope of the rocky mountains. The nearest pass is just 5 miles east of us. It is rocky but still a lot of grass and hay land for cattle to graze.

July 7th, 2014, 10:00 PM
I live in the middle of a forest with lots of hills and valleys.

July 8th, 2014, 05:22 AM
Very flat savannah here in my area.

July 18th, 2014, 03:42 PM
I live in the D/FW metroplex so Flat grass lands with a couple of trees

July 18th, 2014, 04:37 PM
Well the town I live in used to be all farmland, now it's brand new homes that all look alike & businesses everywhere. It's all flat & boring. But if I travel west for 5 miles I'll be at the worlds smallest mountain range, The Sutter Buttes. There's beautiful hills, mountains, rivers, & lakes all around me, just not my particular town. :P

July 18th, 2014, 04:46 PM
Fields, hills, grass, woods on the hills...

July 18th, 2014, 04:54 PM
Colorado is a semi arid desert with tons of snow in the winter and extreme heat in the summer. With snow capped Rocky Mountains almost year round. http://cdn.colorado.com/sites/colorado.com/master/files/styles/media-player-large/public/carousel/012-3-0017_jpegm.jpg

Beautiful coastal city in Montenegro with hills ...

September 21st, 2014, 11:52 PM
The area around me is mostly farm land or just big open fields. There are some major cities but other than those few, it's all agricultural.

September 23rd, 2014, 09:21 AM
the Coastal Plain stretches for about 50 kilometres inland from the Indian Ocean, then a steep hundred metre rise to the Darling Scarp.

September 24th, 2014, 08:07 PM
Red rock canyons. We're in the desert, but also alongside the southwest's major water source~ So it varies from dry, bare desert, to flora-filled desert, to temperate forests, and slightly marshy areas surrounding the river. :P

Middle of an estate surrounded by estates. I am surrounded by some of (not the top 2 worst though) the worst estates in Sunderland. One of them has a lot of smoking houses, one is bad for fires, mine is full of alcohol and there's a park between them that's full of glass and 'buckets' (weed use DIY bottles)

I wouldn't change it though, its grew on me and most of the people are stoned or drunk and lovely.

Downtown. Lots of shops, stores, people. Tourists, restaurants, diverse asian, hispanic culture. The beach is around the way. I love it.

October 4th, 2014, 12:01 AM
Lots of mountains and ocean just outside Honolulu

October 30th, 2014, 12:22 PM
Hills and mountains - town in the valleys, peri-urban sprawl on the hills (I'm living near one of the biggest cities of the country), wild nature in the mountains :p
A lot of tourists in Lyon
Quite cold in winter (minus 10C or 14F !) and hot in summer (up to 40C or 104F) !

October 31st, 2014, 01:24 AM

Rolling hills of Somerset

December 5th, 2014, 08:30 PM
Where I live, the Pacific Ocean is about 25 miles to the west and Highway 101, which is generally considered the "edge" of most roads and buildings (with the exception of the occasional industrial park) before reaching the San Francisco Bay, is about 2 1/2 miles to to the East. It's generally all flat on the "SF Bay side", but anything west of Interstate 280 is very mountainous and hilly.

I live on an island. A fairly small one, 697 km. It's very urbanised, buildings everywhere. It's mostly flat with a few small hills here and there.

December 6th, 2014, 07:04 PM
Mountains, mountains, and more mountains covered by a mostly scorched forest full of dead trees...

December 9th, 2014, 09:33 AM

We live in kind of a small town. It's pretty flat where we live. Lots of fields and some forests in the area. Wide open spaces pretty much described. But 'the styx' and middle of nowhere works too. :P lol

December 24th, 2014, 05:18 PM
We live in a valley with mountains to the east and west.

December 24th, 2014, 09:01 PM
On an island, very flat, although the north shore is hilly. I'm in the middle of the island though, it's very flat here and we are 15 minutes from the ocean.

December 25th, 2014, 12:38 AM

December 25th, 2014, 04:39 PM

Hills, trees... that about sums it up. Nice place where I live.

At school, fewer hills except leading down to the coast by the bay. Oh yea and still lots of trees :D bunch of rocky beaches near the school and some really brilliant views across a couple of different bays in the area so I like it there too.
