Hey Guys,

Just wondering how your armpit hair developed. Like did it start in one patch then spread to the rest of your armpit slowly, or did it just grow in what seemed like overnight? Detailed answers would be appreciated :)

Thanks ;)

Its taken mine a while to grow in. First it was just a couple of hairs and then there was like a little patch on the top part and then eventually more hair grew below the top patch. But I still don't have a lot.

I'm probably too young to answer this, but I my armpit hair hasn't started growing yet. I'm quite glad about it!

Mine started slow between 12-13 and then gradually grew more and more. I have pretty good pit hair now but not a jungle.

I'm 15 1/2 and all I have yet are maybe a couple dozen wild thin wispy hairs in each pit. It's hardly visible from a distance.

I don't think there is anyone in my class with armpit hair. Not even the boys have a lil pubes/

Seriously, it grew thick in a week? Really? I gotta call bs here. Sorry dude.

I went through the main parts of puberty incredibly fast. Unprecedentedly fast and armpit/general androgenic hair growth was absolutely no exception.

People have hair all over their bodies from the day they were born in the form of thin, unpigmented vellus hairs. During puberty, certain areas of the body are signaled to transition from vellus hairs to terminal hairs by androgens (which regulate the form and growth of hair follicles). There are three main variables that are drastically different between vellus and terminal hairs:

-pigmentation
-legnth
-thickness

My armpit hair is jet black which means that my armpit androgens began pumping mainly eumelanin into my vellus folicles. Melanin is made by oxidation of particular amino acids. A process that can happen very rapidly, as matter in your body is reacting and moving at high speeds all the time.

To grow about an inch in a week (it wasn't an exact week but for the sake of approximation let's say it was), it would have to grow very very quickly. 1/168th of an inch every hour. Of course that seems very slow to us and I could easily point that out to make my growth pattern seem more normal, but relative to normal hair growth, even androgenic hair growth during puberty it's fast, but not physically impossible. You couldn't watch it actively grow and likely would notice no change if you sat there for hours. Still fast.

Thickness just means more dead cell build-up around the strand. This is not a far-fetched transition for a pubescent person.

In conclusion, I am no expert in human hair growth and when I tell you that yes, I did get armpit hair fairly thick in about a week or that I gained inches of penis size over the summer etc. I don't blame you for not believing me. I probably wouldn't believe some random person on the internet id they told me that their puberty groeth patterns were in the top, what, 99.9th percentile of overall speed. So all I can do is tell you staight up that I am not lying. Unfortunately there isn't really a way to prove it so feel free to think whatever you want.

I have some fuzzies in one of my arm pits. The other one is smooth. I'm thinking I'll have some hair there soon.

Came in pretty slowly. Slowly enough that I didn't really notice it happening. Also, didn't happen in patches. It's uniform length pretty even.

Mine basically grew over night. I had none then all of a sudden I had a lot. It increased gradually after that.

I'm still in puberty and a bit late for this thread, but I had a very light coverage of hair there before I started shaving it. It grew pretty slowly and I don't now how it would look now.
