What are your thoughts on ending the legacy of these iconic birds?

Never been on one, but seems like they are beyond their time. I got to go on a Dreamliner once from Houston to Denver. Was pretty sweet

The 747s are really iconic but they are getting really old now. I've flown on one recently (not UA though) and although you can tell that they are still really special the features of newer planes such as the dreamliner make 747s seem outdated.

I like 747-400's. Qantas still fly quite a number of them and have flown on 2 this year alone. Some of the Qantas ones have been updated internally to the standard of their A380's. Some however have not and they show their age. I've flown on a British Airways 747-400 and it looked especially old. As for UA, this is not surprising. They have quite a few Dreamliners in service now and all 3 of their daily Australia flights are all Dreamliners that have replaced the 747's and the 777's that were briefly used.
