Some of us do volunteer work to help out. I think it would be a great idea to have a forum dedicated to this. Kids can tell what they do and suggest places to volunteer for other kids who might want to. Some volunteer work kids can do would include the Junior Red Cross, animal shelters, visiting elderly people, mowing lawns for elderly or disabled people, helping at a food bank or soup kitchen, and other things. Just something to consider.

I think volunteering is a great thing. I like the idea. Just not sure there would be enough activity to warrant it?

while not a bad idea, I don't know if it needs a whole forum dedicated to it. a thread that they could stick would be nice. it certainly is wonderful to volunteer and a place would be good, I am just not sure if it would garner enough to get its own separate forum (but what do I know)

I agree with Just JT and SethfromMI I don't think there'd be enough activity for a forum a sticky thread would would work.

As others have said above, there likely wouldn't be enough activity to sustain a forum exlusively for volunteer work. It is a great topic though, so I encourage those involved in such activities to share them in whichever subforum is appropriate.

Or you could also ask a diary owner or diary mod to let you post it in their diary. They'd probably sticky it to. :)

Yes, that's also an option.

I think it would get more activity if it weren't in a diary, though. An example of posting in the appropriate subforum (excluding diaries) would be a thread about tutoring kids in Education and Careers. Most things would probably end up in TWPR as it's a miscellaneous forum anyway.

I'm just reiterating the prior opinions. Great idea for a sticky thread, but not enough for its own forum. Perhaps we could look into getting some staff to create and stick that thread in a public forum. Diaries are nice and all, but they don't get enough activity and publicity to support most threads.

Also I am involved in volunteer work I would have never considered a forum about it here. I honestly would not know what to post about it to fill a forum with.
So I would say a sticky thread would be enough imo.

I would suggest, first start a thread on this topic, and oberserve how this thread develops.

e.g:

I would write:

My family basically consists of dog loving fools.

We support the local animal shelter in our village and are active in animal protection, etc.

Sometimes we also are caregivers fostering animals from the shelter when its capacities reached its maximum potential."

And two families from our clan of friends buyed an old, big farm and run it as a animal sanctuary for old and non-socializable animals. Where I'm also helping out when they need me.

I think, there isn't more to tell about this topic. Not much stuff to run a subforum on this topic, even if there are more folks writing posts like this.

Unless they begin to talk or discuss more specific topics about their volunteer jobs etc what may be beyond the scope of such a thread.

I think this could pose potential safety issues tbh.

How do?

Just JT telling people where you volunteer. People would have to be careful on details. (In my opinion. But if its generic volunteering such as "an animal shelter" and not "Apple Pickers Animal Shelter" (That is a made up "would be real" name.) then it should be fine I guess.
