It's very tragic what happened to Otto Warmbier, this might make the conflict between US and NK even worse than it is now, especially if NK makes a public statement that US had something to do with Otto's death.
What's your opinion about this subject?

Who the fuck would willingly go to North Korea? That's my opinion. If you do some things, expect the worst. That's it. It's tragic what the people of Democratic People's Republic of Korea go through, but to willingly subject yourself to the risk of suffering like them?

I think it's another tragic example of where our world is heading. Yeah he broke the laws of the country he was in, and visirltors should be much more mindful of
Culture when traveling. Especially Americans. But wtf, the kids dead, and what he did, imo didn't warrant a death penalty.

But then again, we still got about 30 Americans still there. But we don't talk about them unless something like this happens

I'm just glad he passed at hen and with family, and not alone

It's surely tragic. But on the other hand if you go to a foreign country and do something that is against the law there you have to face the consequences first it.

So if you decide to go to a country like North Korea as an American and act like he did, disrespecting them, what do you expect?
It's the same like all those international outrage when a tourist gets death penalty in Indonesia for smuggling drugs. It's the law there.

So as sad this whole thing might be, maybe it gives people the insight that the almighty Americanstyle have to stick to the law of the country they visit, too.

Moral of the story: Don't visit North Korea

And don't even think about trying to steal from them. Yes this is very tragic and everything, but he went to North Korea, a country where falling asleep during a state meeting will get you executed. Stealinh propaganda posters from them isn't exactly smart.

We cannot let an innocent civilian of our country be murdered and not have their be serious repercussions.

the problem is he wasn't innocent.

do I agree with how North Korea's crazy laws? heck no!

does anyone deserve to die over a stupid banner? NO!

but as others have said when in another country you have to respect and follow that countries rules even if you don't agree with them.

He was being stupid, but I guess stupidity comes at a heavy price in North Korea. Maybe next time, all those "adventurous" folks will find a more appropriate destination to brag about on their social media, instead of choosing an enemy state (why are flights to North Korea even allowed? I don't understand).

This is similar to the middle-aged man being severely whipped for drinking alcohol in Saudi Arabia. Do we agree with the laws? No. However, if they knowingly break laws of the countries, we can't interfere when they're punished accordingly.

Wrong! I am all for supporting the laws of other countries when our citizens break the laws, but if these laws are immoral or violate our own laws then it is our duty to protect our citizens. Would you support a woman getting stoned to death for a religious crime in the middle east just because they have a law about wearing hijabs or being escorted by a man or something?

Would you support other countries trying to meddle with our laws and values just because they would seem immoral or wrong in their eyes?
So no matter if we like it or not we have to respect the laws of other countries.

Agreed. The whole western superiority complex is so wrong. Just because we do it does not mean it's the only way you can/should do it. Though 15 years of hard labor is crazy, they have done it before and you should keep that in mind when you are in a different place with different laws.

Nope! There is a difference between respecting laws and respecting human dignity.

My heart goes out to his family.

So does mine,it's really unfortunate what happened.I usually don't like to talk about politics but I was curious what others think.

Nope! There is a difference between respecting laws and respecting human dignity.

I think that laws should be respected no matter what they are if you go to North Korea with your own will.
Besides all this there is a lot of foreigners who are in North Korean prisons for the same reason(espionage).
In this case of espionage where Otto tried to steal propaganda poster I do not support any of the parties,he knew what was he doing.I'm very sorry what he went through and how it ended up,at least his family will bury him.
