I think this would be great support for teen with Asperger's and autism. The can talk about how they feel and relate to others. I feel that the ADD board is not adequate if you has autism. The two can come hand and hand, but some don't have it at all (me for example). Please consider this addition.

There's some posts, including an information sticky in the general Mental Illnesses forum found here. (http://www.virtualteen.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32)

I personally do not see the benefit of creating yet another mental illness sub-forum. The amount of posts in most of the existing ones are pretty minimal already, I would almost advocate for getting rid of some sub-forums. It just seems to me that there isn't enough need for yet another sub-forum.

You can post about mental illness topics not found in the sub-forums in the general mental illness sub-forum. That is the way most of the forum here works, you do not need a specific forum for each issue.

I wouldn't categorize autism as a mental illness

I've been thinking about how best to reply to this...

While Endeavour's totally right, to be fair, autism isn't a mental illness (as refrigeratorx said) and it doesn't really make sense to categorize it as such. As things are now - were we to implement a subforum specifically for autism - I don't think there's a good place for it. Additionally, PlasmaHam's concern is valid - I don't know how much traffic it would get.

Yeah, autism's really not a mental illness.

Okay. I get that autism isn't a mental illness. I have it. But there is nowhere else to put complaints in but the Other Mental Illness section. It is the only logical place for those things. There is nowhere else fitting.

ADHD isn't a mental illness, but it has a board in the mental illnesses section. There isn't really anywhere else to put it.
