View Full Version : Meaningful and Powerful Lyrics

What are your favorite lyrics that have the most meaning to you? I usually don't get all political and heart-felt with songs, but "Changes" by Tupac just came on the radio. The quote "Instead of a war on poverty, they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me."

Now, I'm not anti police or pro-drug, but god dammit does that quote mean a lot in today's world. The song was recorded in 1992, which was right during that whole mess with the CIA when they purposely fueled inner-city crime and violence.

But yeah, what are some lyrics that mean a lot to you?

In the days of my youth
I was told what it was to be a man
Now I've reached the age
I've tried to do all those things the best I can
No matter how I try
I find my way to do the same old jam

It hit me in a cold shower a couple years ago and realized it my life
Even if the songs not about me

I'm very late replying to this thread, but there are so many songs that mean a lot to me and I wanted to find that one that resonates with me.

I don't listen to much Nickelback, but all the lyrics to "If Everyone Cared" just blow me away. There's a lot of depth in such a simplistic, almost child-like musing that will make you step back and take a look at yourself. It appeals to my far-fetched fantasy of a peaceful world with no suffering.

Oh god don't even get me started

Qué bonito sería decirle que es sólo un cuento
Que las cosas que pasan ahí fuera ocurren muy lejos
Qué bonito sería engañarle matándole a besos
Pero ahora mis brazos son sólo otros brazos con miedo
Me inventaré que hasta los malos son buenos
Que habrá verano en enero
Y la última lluvia es esta que moja tu piel
But now my arms are just ones that are also death scared

Which translates to:

How beautiful would it be to tell her it's just a tale
That the things that happen out there are very far away
How beautiful would it be to trick him killing her with kisses
I'll make up that the bad people are good ones
That there'll be summer in January
And the last rain is this one that dampens your skin

As well as:

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Hallelujah...any version, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, John cale, Rufus Wainwright...etc etc

but I think as a song...Jeff Buckley's is the most emotional version.

Well meet me Jesus, meet me
Meet me in the middle of the air
And if these wings don't fail me
I will meet you anywhere
There ain't not grave can hold my body down
