WASHINGTON — The day after what many had assumed would be the inauguration of the first female president, hundreds of thousands of women flooded the streets of Washington, and many more marched in cities across the country, in defiant, jubilant rallies against the man who defeated her.

Protesters jammed the streets near the Capitol for the main demonstration, packed so tightly at times that they could barely move. In Chicago, the size of a rally so quickly outgrew early estimates that the official march that was scheduled to follow was canceled for safety, though many paraded through downtown, anyway.

In Manhattan, Fifth Avenue became a tide of signs and symbolic pink hats, while in downtown Los Angeles, shouts of “love trumps hate” echoed along a one-mile route leading to City Hall, with many demonstrators spilling over into adjacent streets in a huge, festival-like atmosphere.

The marches were the kickoff for what their leaders hope will be a sustained campaign of protest in a polarized nation, riven by an election that raised unsettling questions about American values, out-of-touch elites and barriers to women’s ambitions.

I know he's unpopular but damn, he hasn't even done anything yet. I mean yeah, his campaign was quite scandalous etc., but he is the president now and we have to make the most of it. I'm not gonna root for him to fail. It's like his third day in office for christ's sake, he hasn't even done anything yet. All these people are already calling for impeachment, for what? Wait for him to do something to deserve it at least.

Ah, the rights to kill fetuses, get free contraceptives, and to show breasts in public. Those are such noble causes that require you to truly embrace it by dressing up as genitalia, pedophiles, and gay stereotypes. Such nobility and honor truly brings people to your cause.

Didn't Trump sign the executive order to defund planned parenthood?

Planned Parenthood provides massive amounts of healthcare to women. It is not just about abortions, in fact, it provides free sex education and contraceptives so that people can avoid abortions. If anything, there will be more unintended pregnancies and abortions.

-

I mean clearly this march is to prove that 'pussy' can grab back. You can do whatever you want to do as a woman, and decide your fate. Every woman in this march are united under equality and feminism. The whole point is unity and to pay attention to other people. Everyone's having a good time.

Where are there people dressing up like 'gay stereotypes' and 'pedophiles'? I'd rather see a woman march in solidarity dressed up like a vagina to protect her rights, than the shit that comes out of Trump's mouth.

Gay stereotypes, are they bad?

Not once, did I see anyone trying to encourage pedophilia or ever thought that it's okay.

Ah, I think you've completely missed the point of feminism, my friend :P

I'm not going to go into a whole argument about it because I know your views on such subjects, but the point as far as abortion goes isn't that women want to get abortions, Its that we should have a choice and if we are even able to get one in the first place.
As far as contraceptives go... that's birth control or smth? Right? Condoms are free in a shit ton of places and clinics and planned parenthood and similar organizations provide cheap birth control with a prescription.
No idea where you got the "show breasts in public" bit, but there's plenty of nudists out here? Idk?

Again tho, that isn't the only thing feminists want and it isn't all for women. It's for men and women to have equal rights as each other and equal opportunities. It just so happens society is extremely oppressive and judgemental as far as women go and that males face a lot less than we do.

Some estimates (adjusted for exaggeration) put out suggest 1% of the whole US population was out and about that day. That may seem small, but when was the last time 1% of the people in this country actually coordinated with eachother and did something? Maybe during the last few, big wars.

In numbers, that is about 3.4 million people, or about the population of Uruguay.

Don't mention killing fetuses or they'll tell you that's your only point and it's no what they're marching about.

Whoah! Did you just assume their sexuality?!?!?! (can't say 'his')

Anyway, what are they marching for? They have the exact same rights as men. But a man would probably be put on a register for talking about how he has wet dreams while women are encouraged to go into great detail about their periods and how they can't control it. Couldn't they have better spent the day reading a book or something?

Drewboyy It was to support of women's rights and also a lot of other things like LGBTQ rights, racial justice, freedom of religion, protection of our natural environment, health care reform, immigration policy...it differed slightly frome state to state and in the several countries.
It was stated in the news coverage and you could also read it on the banners and posters people had with them just in case you had been really interested.

You mean the LGBTQ rights that exist? And the racial justice that exists? And the freedom of religion that exists? If you wanna get rights like these, go to Saudi Arabia where they don't already exist. Be careful you don't get raped though. They might stone you.

I mean c'mon, I shouldn't have to see this at a Trump rally if POC lives matter to him. To be fairly honest, these are the type of people that support him.

Trump's racism will never affect you. His discrimination will never affect you. His hatred for marginalized people won't affect you.

They may have the same legal rights but this does not translate to prefect execution of such rights in practice. Many are still subject to harassment or discrimination. If there isn't then we won't be hearing of court cases/enforcement (https://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/statistics/enforcement/charges.cfm) regarding discrimination. All these categories may be social constructs but the innate prejudice against them are very real. A president who has the audacity to trivialize and degrade such groups of people verbally, jokingly or not, is unacceptable. The mere fact that he can even think of and articulate such disrespectful statements is abhorrent.

If he is to be a president of all Americans then he better be working for the interests of all Americans and respect all groups, not just certain groups of supporters.

You should make your sarcasm a bit clearer, as it's 1. Over the Internet and 2. Everyone knows how much you despise feminists. It can't exactly be distinguished anymore :P i also hardly see anyone reply to your comment BTW? Except me and one person who agreed with you. Was there something wrong that I said? Or something off putting?
