Is cutting mostly a female thing? I have a friend who is a girl and she will not stop cutting herself. Looking it up it seems to be a female thing mostly, is that true or are guys just better at hiding it or not talking about it?

No, it's not mostly a female thing. It applies to all and every gender. Some females hide it perfectly, some guys don't hide it at all.
It varies from person to person, personality to personality. If you know someone who has been cutting themselves, contact a close family member. It's a dangerous and destructive habit and should be helped immediately. :<

An interesting question. Certainly there are people from both sexes who cut, but it would be interesting to see whether females more often decide to cut than males.

Unfortunately, because cutting oneself is such a personal decision and is hidden most of the time, no conclusions can effectively be made on skewedness by gender. It would be digging into people's personal lives to try and ask a representative sample whether they cut or not. They'd be too uncomfortable sharing that information.

I wonder if it'd have any relation in the way that females attempt suicide more often yet males are more likely to succeed. But in general no it is not a gendered thing. In my own personal experience I find that guys I've know are much more secretive or undercover about it but I probably just know a lot more unfazed and brash girls.
