Heyyy! The servers seem to be doing a lot better but every now and then I get a screen like this for 2 or 3 minuets and then the site works again.

We've been doing updates and there might be a few hiccups here and there for a few minutes. There was an announcement made about updates the other day. Sometimes things take a little smoothing out first. Sorry for the inconvenience, but everything should be fine and if any issues persist they will be taken care of.

Same here. Pretty much from 9am my time to about half an hour ago (1:30am). Late this afternoon I was able to log on but nothing worked, every forum brought up an error message.

sometimes I could log on sometimes not, but now I been seeing it was a wide spread problem, not just with me

The administrators are well aware of the problems today, and have already worked on it.

well I assume you are well aware of it, we were too. when a server issue takes up practically most of a day, people are naturally curious and are wondering if they should be expecting more problems with it in the very near future.

I also specifically posted was because I received a vt message during that time and I wondered if it was just me who was not able to log on because he clearly got a message through when I was not able to log in.

so there are different reasons why people might post on this issue

Sorry about the downtime today. I was away from the computer for most of the day until now, but I'm fairly sure we know what the issue was and all seems to be ok now. Likely my fault :P sorry.

haha I don't blame you or any mod. I know (and I am sure most of us understand) these problems are pretty common on a site like this. I just did not know if it was me or site wide, which is why I commented specifically.

you all do an amazing job at running VT :D

Are you able to shed light even vaguely on what is causing the issue?

Is it a hardware failure, a code glitch, or a host issue?

I couldn't respond either for a large part of the day on a weekend, which isn't a huge deal because I did other stuff, but on terms of communication reliability that's shaken.

I was able to load the home page and PM, but anything else I did I got a server error. It was down (my time) from early this morning until about 6:30-ish in the evening.

So we aren't likely to see this issue again now that it is updated or are there other issues going on too?

Just a few weeks ago we also had an outage too.

I really can't predict that. At this point in time I want to say no, we should not be having more issues, but things happen.

What Mike just said is very important: things happen. We can't predict when or if the server is going to have some kind of problem. If we do maintenance or updates, we'll do our best to notify you all ahead of time via an announcement (in fact, you'll probably see one in the coming week or so) so you'll know when to expect the forums to be down. But otherwise, we can't predict when things don't work as they should. As you all saw, there was a database error the other day, and it occurred because of a corrupt table in our database - something we cannot predict. But things happen, especially when you consider that VT's software has remained more or less constant for nearly a decade, so things won't always be perfect.
And unfortunately when things like that do happen, the fix is almost always done by an admin, and Mike, Val, and myself all are rather busy people ourselves, so sometimes it might take us a bit to get to the problem, but we always will as soon as we're able to. Again, I apologize for the downtime yesterday and I hope it doesn't happen again, and there are measures in place to prevent it from doing so, but there's always a chance that something happens.

Okay well if you need SSD's let me know.

I don't know much about servers but if table, you mean harddrive failure then I understand, things happen.
