I've been drinking alcohol regularly for quite some time. I heard that the withdrawal is pretty terrible so I was wondering that how long you need to be addicted to it to experience that terrible withdrawal.

It's not so much dictated by the length of the addiction as it is by severity. As long as you don't let it get out of hand, you probably don't have to worry about getting addicted, though I would advise that you quit if you're even just concerned about it.

Symptoms of alcohol withdrawal can begin as soon as two hours after the last drink, to as long as four days. Symptoms include but not limited to insomnia, anxiety, shakiness, sweating, and nausea or vomiting.
