Is anyone here getting ready for the Oculus Rift pre order that is likely to drop in the next few weeks? I've been working on putting together a fast enough rig to handle the SBS rendering. Thankfully I've finally finished the PC, and built up enough funds to actually get the Rift pre ordered with decent shipping.

lol $500, I'll pass

seems useless and gimmicky, especially considering it's still embryonic and maybe 10 games support it. what's the appeal that you couldn't get from a regular high end monitor? I think these companies like to come up with useless shit just to have another reason to take your money (and lol at funding it through Kickstarter - pay not once but twice!) :lol3:

reminds me of Google Glass. this is about as close to "sex robot" tech you can get except you can't even have sex with it (although I'm sure someone will find a way to watch 3D porn on it)

Well I got Google cardboard for Christmas so I'm set. As in I got nauseous when I first tried VR.

It's not gimmicky, if you've tried VR at all. It also makes Google Cardboard look like a toy due to the low persistence and low latency head tracking. The two panels used for your eyes are also designed to reduce the screen door effect. The optics are also designed to help with that a bit as well. The Kickstarters were to help fund the two development kits. Even with the first kickstarter, Oculus lost money on DK1. Many games will start supporting VR, since Sony, Micrsoft, Valve, Facebook/Oculus all have a hand in this race. I'm guessing there has been around $1,000,000,000 put into R&D. VR also has applications in learning, medicine, and various other fields besides gaming. The reason Google Glass failed was due to a lack of market, and because it just didn't have any practical input method.

I've tried it and while it was pretty awesome, I expected more from it. I'd say it's worth it bit um not too sure about the content that supports it yet

I'll wait a few years, will build a PC with Intel Core i7 18600K and GTX 11700. I'll be ready for a well finished product on which I'll be able to play Crysis 5 ultra 144 fps.

Yeah, it works well for 3D modeling and programming. I can't wait to do some work in UE4 for the Rift.

I'm not going to, we have rifts at school and the only thing they gave me was a trip to the bathroom and a free ticket to see my breakfast again
