Have you ever been in a car accident?

Unfortunately, I got in my first accident back at the end of October. It was a rainy Tuesday evening, and the roads were super slick because it was the first solid rain in a loooong ass time.
I took a freeway ramp too fast for the condition of the road and condition of my tires. Stevens Creek Blvd (I-280) to CA-85N towards San Francisco for anyone who's been in the bay. When it's dry, I can take the curve at around 55-60 MPH. I slowed down to 45-50 mph, but I started to loose traction. My car doesn't have VSC, ABS, or traction control, and I handled the situation horribly. I smashed the side wall on the passenger side, then rebounded and hit the guard rail on the drivers side before coming to a rest in a gore point (the merge area between 2 lanes).

I tried to drive off, but the car wasn't happy about going anywhere. I called 911 and they sent a CHP unit to escort me 1 mile to get off the freeway. My car had to get towed home, but we eventually got it fixed. The suspension feels funny now because the front struts are aftermarket, but the rear is OEM Toyota. But I escaped uninjured which is what matters!!

How about you guys? Ever been in an accident, or been in someone else's car when they've crashed theirs?

I was in an accident in June. My mum was driving, with my dad in the front passenger seat and me and my sister in the back. We where driving along a 3 carriage-way motorway in the middle lane, overtaking a lorry.

I looked across to the opposite side of the car and literally said "mum that lorry is getting awfully clo...." before it bumped into the side of us at around 70mph. My sister had been leaning against the window so obviously leaned inwards into the car and instinctively I leaned over her. Sparks where flying everywhere and my mum swerved into the inside lane (if anything had been coming up there we'd be dead).

One of the most terrifying experiences of my life. Can't get in a car and overtake a lorry without having a mini panic attack now.

I had an accident at the end of June this year, it was with my own car and I was driving down a country lane , when all of a sudden a car come flying round the corner ( I live in Leicestershire and we have a lot of little roads here) , I had to swerve out the way because they were almost coming head onto me , I swerved right into a ditch , hit a big tree , then multiple little ones at around 60mph , it all happened in slow motion and I had recently had a new wing mirror on the left side. All i noticed at first was that we had hit multiple trees and spun out , glass flew everywhere, all i noticed was that my right mirror now was smashed off, but then I tried to open the door to realize that it was completely jammed shut, I then had to climb out the window and my heart dropped when i saw that the right side of my car was completely ruined, it wasn't a cheap car so i was devastated. The door , the windows, literally the whole of it had been crushed in.

Ever since then , I drive alot differently , I am so much more aware of what's going on around me so I guess that's the good that came out of it.

I had an accident earlier this year, it was very minor, but could have been much worse, to the point of death. I was driving up north on the interstate, it was late, probably around midnight, and I happened to doze off. I was very fortunate, to hit the guardrail, rather than another vehicle, sign, or off the road entirely and striking whatever might be there. I woke once I hit it, and merged back into the lane, and went to the nearest gas station to realize what had just happened. Luckily enough, the damage was much different than what I had expected. I was expecting big dents in the side, but there was only two lines, I'd say about 3 inches long, where it had just grazed the side of the car, removing barely any paint, and dent free, and that is an easy fix. Who knows, it could have been worse, but that's my story. :)
I'm the luckiest mother fucker, There's more stories to back that up(and they're not related to driving So don't worry about riding with me, just go to the bathroom first) :P

rear ended by a girl who was distracted because the police had pulled someone over and she did not see everyone stopped. I was not driving, but still got a hurt back for a bit. At least she was not on her cell!!!

Back in June I was driving home from work during a pretty bad thunderstorm. I was driving on a hilly and winding road, but I was driving below the speed limit to be on the safe side (30mph, speed limit was 45). As I was cresting over a hill, my car suddenly lost traction on the way down (my tires were relatively new and my car's ABS worked fine) and it veered into the opposite lane. I panicked and yanked the steering wheel to the right to avoid hitting oncoming traffic and I spun all the way down the hill (my glasses flew off my face and into the back seat lol). I eventually spun onto the side of the road where my car would have most likely flipped had one of my tires not gotten stuck in an open drain. My coworker left work some time after I left, so she saw my car and helped me out until my parents came and pulled my car out of the ditch. My car was surprisingly undamaged, except for the mud guard in the front which was easy to fix. That car was a champ.

When I was just a baby, our car flipped over and landed in a ditch. Everyone was okay and apparently I was laughing the whole time. I don't think I go through one problem without laughing about it.

Wasn't hurt or anything but this is what happened:

I was with my granddad and he took the wrong turn -accidentally onto the motorway. And he got a bit worried and then someone else bumped into the side and I can't really remember what happened after that, it was quite a while ago.

Actual accident? I was too young to remember it, so I don't even count it it was so minor.

As for near accidents: I was driving my mom's car and going through a blind curve when this car came out of nowhere, I slammed on brakes, she slammed on brakes and looked at me like I was stupid. I just flipped her off and drove home.

I've been in one before. An older lady made a left turn from a median and cut infront of me.

I never been in a major accident. The only accident I was in was when I was 11 and another car backed into my grandma's car in a Walmart parking lot and dented the rear fender and smashed a taillight.

This is actually pretty surreal, I think that's how it's spelled, for me. I've never been in one other than like maybe a little bump n grind kinda thing
But I always wondered about my dads crash and what that was like for him. If he even knew, if anyone knew what it was like for him. Kinda makes me think. Good thread.

I have been once when I was little. My parents and I were going home during the night and deer appeared in front of our car and we crashed into it. I don't remember it, I mainly know about this by what my parents told me.

I have never been in a car accident but I know a few people that have! My physics teachers girlfriend had her intestines outside of her body after the seatbelt dug into her :o

Ive been in a few.

The first was when i was less than a year old, coming back from my relatives seeing me for the first time. My aunt had given my mom one of those little plastic cars for kids to play with. My mom hit a patch of black ice on the highway and spun into a snowbank, causing us to do a few barrel-rolls and landing on the roof of the convertible. That little plastic car is all that kept me and her from being crushed by the upside down car. Neither of us were hurt, but the car was totaled. I still have the plastic car.

The second was with my stepdad driving down a winding dirt road in the winter. There was a culvert that made a patch of ice on the road that we slid on, then when the tires hit the gravel again, we slid right off into a 3 foot ditch. Nobody got hurt. The truck got a few dents from hitting the hill.

The next, i was driving alone at night. I had been working on the brakes in my truck and wanted to test everything to make sure it was properly re-assembled. I started uphill and they worked, so i took it on the road. I got up to about 15mph, then slammed on them and they worked fine. I took it down the road mentioned in the story above, and they worked. I drove down a straight stretch at about 65mph and a deer ran out. I slammed on them and the left front failed. It jerked to the right, hit the deer with the drivers side door, ramped a 4 ft hill, flew about 15 ft, made a crater where i landed, and slid for another 20 feet through a corn field. Even though i wasnt wearing a seatbelt, i wasnt hurt. The only damages were a dent in the door from the deer, and i landed on the front bumper so it got pushed up half an inch and one tire went flat from the impact (dont ask me how) so i put the spare on and drove home.

Then i was with my brother. Once he backed into a truck and messed up the taillight and left rear fender, and another time he was going too fast down a hill and there were cars stopped at the bottom around a corner so he hit the brakes and turned, but he already lost traction so we just spun sideways and i thought i was going to eat the bumper of that chevy 2500 but i reached over and turned the wheel right so it spun us back around toward the road. We still hit the bank on the oncoming side, but it wasnt very high and it hit where there was already a dent from another of his wrecks, so no big deal. Neither of us were hurt.

This may or may not count, but i was driving about 8 of my friends home in my 94 toyota corolla. There were 3 people up front, 5 in the back seat, and one guy in the trunk (the space behind the seats is open because of speakers). That car sits low to begin with, and that many people just made it groan. Every little bump we went over made the bottom of the car scrape on the road. I went around a corner at a Y-intersection and it bottomed out. It wouldnt go until everyone got out because the front tires came off the ground.
One time i was driving my friends truck with him in the passenger seat because we were partying that night and he was drunk. I was going way too fast at about 85-90 mph on a 45 because we were having fun when a deer ran out. I had no time to react and it flew straight up off the front and landed about 25 feet away on the other side of the road. I stopped for a second but i heard the radiator leaking so i threw the deer in the back and kept going so it wouldnt overheat. The next day, i helped him put a new fender, hood, grille, and radiator mount in off a parts truck he had. Only the deer got hurt but he laughed really hard because of how it flew.

Ive been pretty lucky to not have gotten hurt.

I was in my friend's car when it was hit from behind, but not hard. There was no real damage to her car, but the other car got crunched. Kinda weird. No one hurt, though.

Sadly... Yes :(
It wasn't serious, just some icy roads and I hit some bracken, but I wasn't hurt, and the car wasn't badly wrecked.
But I do have the dishonor of saying I was in a car accident :(
