View Full Version : Loss of appetite?

Lately I've been suffering from some pretty serious anhedonia. Almost nothing interests me anymore, and this has had an affect on my appetite. I feel hungry but there's nothing i feel like eating.. nothing at all. Usually i'll end up force feeding myself so that i don't lose weight or starve myself further.

My parents have taken notice to this and they won't stop pressuring me to eat. I've tried explaining to them that my appetite is non-existent and their only response is, "but you have to eat!" Wow no shit, I had no idea that eating was required :l

I don't know what to do. Eating has never been a problem for me in the past, I could sit down and eat an entire meal plus more, no problem. Now that's not the case. What i would really like is to gain my appetite back, as well as gaining some weight.

What should i do?

See a doctor.
Loss of apatite could be the symptom
of a medical condition. You need to get tested.

That's not anorexia.

Its note like a symptom of depression or a medical condition. It is NOT an ED! An ed is characterized by negative self image and intrusive thoughts about food and weight. You just have lost interest or appetite, you WANT to gain weight and enjoy food. There is a big difference

I think its nuts to call any person who is thin or low appetite anorexic. There is a Huge difference. People use ED way too much. its now a stereotype created by idiot drs that just want money from visits or medications to stuff normal people in rather than the actual disorder it is.

That's not anorexia.

When did anyone say anything about anorexia?

Its note like a symptom of depression or a medical condition.

Assuming 'note' is a typo for 'not,' loss of appetite actually is a symptom of depression and numerous medical conditions.

Though i don't believe i'm suffering from a medical condition.

I think I thought I wrote more, I might have wrote note or not and changed my thought too. Any how its a total typo lol. I ment to say what you said, that its more like a symptom of depression or medical condition. Though i doubt you have a medical condition, thats up for you to decide.

Sorry for the major mess up. That's not what I thought I wrote Lol. Could also be my phone acting up again and making my type go in the wrong place. Sorry about that!

It doesn't sound like what you're going through is necessarily an "eating disorder" but rather a symptom of something else, perhaps depression or anxiety. I'd check in with a doctor or psychologist to find out what exactly you might be experiencing.

I'm having a similar difficulty - used to eat fine, now the prospect of a meal is sickening.
How often are you eating at the moment? Is your fluid intake more or less than it was? I'm finding my fluid intake is much, much less.
Regardless of what you eat, ensure you're hydrating yourself enough. I'd fully recommend seeing a doctor. As the poster above said, it may be an onset effect of a different problem.

If it gets bad, go see a doctor. You don't want to starve.

Try to cheer yourself up to eat. Avoid depression and be healthy. :)

Go and see your doctor. Your parents needn't know if you don't want them too as doctors and GPs have to treat you with complete confidentiality. They can refer you to a psychiatrist or other related specialist.

Anything could be the cause of your loss of appetite but it sounds like you're suffering from mild depression. It CAN be treated but if you try to "grin and bear it" as it were, your condition could deteriorate.

All the best :)

Seeing a doctor would be the best advice for you. You must do it before it gets worse.
