View Full Version : "Romney sucks pass it on"

So that's the current title of the most reblogged tumblr post of all time. Because i know how much all of you care.

I saw this tumblr and figured there had to be a news article somewhere, so here it is. (http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonoberholtzer/2012/09/20/the-most-popular-tumblr-post-of-all-time/)

To understand what is happening here, you have to understand a bit about how Tumblr works. A post picks up a note when it is either liked or reblogged by another Tumblr user. A “like” gives it a little heart and tags it for you; a reblog puts it onto your own Tumblr blog. Basically, almost 8 million people have done one or the other here.

What is this wonder of a post? It is actually many things, but above all it is a post designed for a single purpose — to be the most popular of all time. You see, when you reblog something, you have the option to change its content, much like when you retweet something, you can then change what you’ve retreated (marked with a HT or other methods). This post is just a title, no body, and the title keeps changing as the post gets passed around, picking up likes under different banners.

That’s why it got to me under the title “Mitt Romney sucks pass it on” and why I pushed it down the line as “Randy Newman for President.” Each post picked up likes and was reblogged after me and exponentially, the post continues its growth.

So, what else has this post been? It’s impossible to follow all the past permutations; with Tumblr’s reblog system I can see everybody who has touched the post but cannot link directly to their edits, so much of this is lost in the archives of millions of Tumblogs. It’s also impossible to keep up with the pace of its proliferation at this point (the post has gained over 1000 notes since I took the above screenshot). With some sleuthing, I did manage to find a few other entries, including the following:

Reblog if you are a wizard or a witch
Reblog if you love Tumblr
barack obama sucks pass it on
Be a part of a 7 million note post
Randy Newman for President — wait, that’s mine … but still, right?!
Since you can’t really look back, just look forward. If you have a Tumblr, feel free to pick up where I left off and join the most popular Tumblr post of all time.

The guy who wrote the article was also kind enough to leave a permalink for anyone who wants to continue the thread. That can be found here. (http://joberholtzer.tumblr.com/post/31935089961/randy-newman-for-president)

As you can see the title already changed.. shame. By the way at the time of me posting this it has 8,221,500 notes. I wonder how much it will grow.

Holy Mother of Pearl, the number of notes and "likes" that thing has is insane. :o Social media certainly comes into play during the elections, and gives people a chance to voice their opinions.

Implying Tumblr is relevant.

Wasn't Tumblr infested with naive moronic teenage girls?

Wasn't Tumblr infested with naive moronic teenage girls?

Isn't that statement inaccurate, uninformed and judgmental?

OP, This is pretty damn cool, thanks for posting.
